The Origin of Kachó

"Kachó" is the Papiamento word for dog—a tribute to the vibrant spirit of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. This creole language, a melodic blend of Portuguese, Spanish, and Dutch, reflects the rich cultural heritage that first captivated us.

Our connection to Curaçao is rooted in its warmth: a life lived in rhythm with nature and a deep appreciation for community. We carry this spirit into every piece we create in our Budapest studio. For us, Kachó is more than a name: it is a commitment to connection, intentional craft, and a profound respect for the world we share.

At Kachó, high-quality materials, sustainability, and ethical working conditions are at the heart of what we do. We source all our materials within Europe and handcraft our products in Budapest, Hungary, where our label is based.

Our vegetable-tanned leather is sourced from Italy, a country renowned for its tradition of luxurious quality and exceptional craftsmanship. To complement this, we purchase our premium hardware locally in Hungary.

• Wipe your accessory with a damp (not wet) cloth to remove dirt and dust.
• Avoid harsh chemicals or detergents, as these can damage the natural leather finish.

2. Nourish the Leather

• Apply a high-quality leather balm every few months to maintain suppleness and shine.
• Your Kachó accessory comes with a complimentary leather care kit, including a nourishing balm and a soft cotton cloth for easy maintenance.

3. Store in a Cool, Dry Place

• Keep your leather accessory away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking or discoloration.
• Use the organic cotton dust bag included with your product to protect your collar and leash when not in use.

To find the perfect collar size for your dog, follow these simple steps:

1. Measure Your Dog's Neck

• Use a soft measuring tape to measure the circumference of your dog's neck in centimeters (cm).
• Have your dog stand or sit calmly while you take the measurement to ensure accuracy.
• Make sure the tape measure is comfortably loose, allowing you to fit two fingers easily between the tape and your dog’s neck.

2. Adjust for Comfort

• For a secure and comfortable fit, add 1 - 2 cm to the measured neck circumference. This extra room ensures your dog can wear the collar comfortably without it being too tight.

By following these steps, you can ensure a well-fitting collar that provides comfort and safety for your furry companion.

Leather can react to water, so it's best to avoid letting your dog swim with their leather collar on. However, if your collar gets wet, follow these simple steps to restore its beauty and durability:

1. Air Dry Thoroughly

• Gently remove the collar and pat off excess water with a clean, soft cloth.
• Avoid using heat sources, such as a hairdryer, as they can dry out the leather and cause cracking.
• Find a well-ventilated area at room temperature to air dry the collar naturally.

2. Reshape and Condition

• Once the collar is fully dry, gently massage the leather with your hands to soften and restore its natural suppleness.
• To smooth out any wrinkles, iron the collar carefully. Never iron directly on the leather—always place a clean towel between the iron and the collar. Set the iron to the lowest heat setting and only iron over the towel surface, not directly on the leather.

3. Nourish the Leather

• After reshaping, apply a high-quality leather balm to help restore moisture and maintain the leather’s softness.

• Custom orders (e.g., customized dog tags) are not eligible for return.
